This movie has stayed on my mind ever since I saw it as a little kid. Rewatching it as an adult helps me to better understand why I loved it so much back then as I do right now. Not only is the Green Mile shot and directed very beautifully but the characters are also developed and you end up caring so much about them. The last thing you’d ever think of saying is how you felt bad for criminals how they were humanized and you felt bad when they met their time but this movie really makes you believe that. For a 3 hour long movie, you truly don’t feel that length and I find this movie very re-watchable even with it being as long as it is. Truly one of the best films out there and it always will be, really recommend this film for someone looking for something more than just entertainment.
  • A confused tear-jerker

Like so many other Stephen King adaptations, this one is too long, ookily sentimental yet morally murky, and filled with characters whose actions and motivations are often questionable at best. I kept wondering yeah but why didn't he, and why did they, and etc. It's also as strangely obsessed with urine as other King movies are with blood. What up with that? The directing is plodding and obvious. It's not the cast's fault. Hanks and a host of late-90s stalwarts -- like David Morse, who apparently was contractually obligated to appear in a supporting role in every single Hollywood movie made in the 1990s -- all do their best with the inferior material. But after nearly 3 hours it all comes down to a tear-jerker that seems confused about its own message. For a story that seems to want to be an indictment of racial prejudice, it plays out in pretty racist ways. Just saying.
  • For people who understand why we're here

Those who do not get it will readily identify themselves as such. Let the dead bury their dead. For the rest of us, The Green Mile is a deeply felt exploration of a level of reality that goes beyond the material. I cannot count how many thousand films I have watched but there are a few that truly stand out and which have a value that goes far beyond entertainment and amusement. These are films that are truly profound and that show us who we are, what we can be, and why humanity is such a precious thing. One of these is Grand Canyon. Another is The Green Mile. There are a handful of others. It is unfortunate that there are so few of them. As for the negative reviews, these are the expressions of those who live in a world of limitation. From my perspective, this is one of the most importand and valuable films ever made.

The Review that Richard Corliss , Time Magazine , June 24 2010 gave on this movie . He gave it a ROTTEN grade and called this film ..." A life sentence for some " . Wonder if he still feels that way ? Anyways, This movie is an all time classic and if you've been living under a rock , you owe yourself to watch this . One of the all time best in my opinion. !!
