Brad Pitt stars in an epic tale of passion, heroism, betrayal and war that has been passed from generation to generation since the dawn of civilization--the story of the battle for Troy. A thousand years before the time of Christ, Trojan prince Paris (Orlando Bloom) abducts the legendary Greek beauty Helen, queen of Sparta (Diane Kruger), starting a war led by heroes Achilles (Pitt) and Hector (Eric Bana) that devastates the ancient world.

Stunning. A great film. A lot of action and even some romance. It really has it all. The cast is fantastic.
  • Get the Original, not Director's Cut

Troy is my favorite movie ever. I want to note though that Director's Cut has its pros and cons, but it should not be bought unless you also own the original theatrical release. The pros are the extended scene of Paris and Helen, better fight scenes on the taking of the Trojan beach, and slightly better conclusion to the end. Now the cons are only a couple with some of the changes in storyline/dialog aren't quite as good as the original, but the biggest problem with this version is the lack of good music. The original had an epic soundtrack especially the ending music, while this one lacked the great music. ONLY get the Director's Cut as an addition to the original release, not in lieu of it!
  • If only Hector has won!

So much for "Greek tragedy". Every time I watch it Hector dies! he's the best of men not Achilles.

For one, seeing many reviews that say unlike the book, but,so what. Not like this is some religion and I don’t like the “the gods” talk in the movie, cause I believe in one God and his Son (Easter significance) but I enjoy this movie for the entertainment value on its own. Great action and fighting sequences and wow how about Brad Pitt, in great shape at 40 huh? His character is almost indestructible but no one is perfect except one ever so be forewarned. And ain’t Diane Kruger the most stunning woman that ever hit the big screen? Never knew she was ever fully nude in a movie (same year I first saw National Treasure movie) but at least the nudity is tastefully done. It is a very enjoyable movie in spite of the long time. Orlando Bloom is a bit of a wimpy fighting character while Eric Bana is bold and courageous in spite of the inevitable outcome but that is how the show rolls. Enjoy it and forget the silly book!

This is a story more of battle as the love is the fuse! It is told with great imagination and a style I have not seen in any movie of this type. Top notch and well done!

I think that in this particular case Hollywood did their best with the movie Troy. For those ignorant individuals this is about the Iliad written by homer, and quite frankly they followed TO THE T! Almost every aspect of the Iliad I thought. The movie and book is suppose to be about the TRAGEDY OF ACHILLES! Now I do want to add that some important seems were left out. Like Hera,Athena, and Aphrodite fighting over the apple and paris(being on mt. Ida at the time) decides who gets the apple at Thetis and Peleus' wedding. Aphrodite wins because she promises Paris the most beautiful woman in the world which of course is HELEN queen of Sparta. They included a good portion of scenes and lines from the book. Like the tension between Agamemnon and Achilles. Or even how a lot of the gods get involved with the fight. Picking sides and rooting for Trojan and Greek warriors to win. IF YOU READ THE BOOK, OR STUDY THE ILLIAD. You will find a deeper meaning of the movie then just some blood, killing, and some war. After studying the book and what homer shows us relating Achilles to aristotles poetics I can confidently say that this is a fantastic movie!

I have to say, out of all of the movies I have ever watched, I was never left with such a feeling of sadness and excitement. This movie is amazing in its entirety, with a huge (and obviously famous) cast, as well as gorgeous special effects. As you watch the movie, you get attracted to most of the characters and get confused as to which side to support. I have been able to always been able to distinguish characters as antagonists and protagonists, but due to the great story line, it was difficult to distinguish which characters I should support. Overall, love this movie, and I find that the length of the directors cut version really contributes to the appreciation of not only the movie itself and all of the amazing details it offered, but also to the story line itself.
